Just out of her mother's womb, You kill the poor soul, bury her under a tomb.
"She's a girl", you say, of what use can she be? "Let's try for a son now, shall we?".
For 9 months, she carried her princess, you snatch the gift and destroy it within no time.
You don't understand her pain, how would you, unless you accept females are not all dirt and slime.
"You will soon have a baby girl" the doctor said, your wife squealed in glee! Putting on a fake smile, you acted happy, whereas inside you were as seething as can be.
* Of what use is a girl child? What would she give us in return?
She'll get married and go away, after we paid for all these years of fun?
I want a male boy, a heir I can trust my everything with,
The Gods will punish me for this? Ha! That's just a myth.
* I wake up, dazed and lost, what am I doing on this bed?
Why is every part of me aching? The last thing I remember, is what the doctors said.
My kidney was weak, and they wanted to check,
I never knew, my life they'd wreck.
They drugged me and cheated me, severing the life growing within.
How,how do I convince them that a girl child is not a sin?
Foeticide, infanticide, aside from dowry and rape.
So many social evils. How much can a woman take?
Women empowerment, women education, the people all demand.
No one cares enough to look for these people, to punish the guilty, to first solve the issues at hand.

DeleteFlawless, Beautiful, WOW! All those things that everybody said... this is truly amazing.. beautiful to me as well. You are so talented.. it makes me want to cry.. just the thought.. I've always wanted a little girl but instead I've been blessed with three little boys.. how wonderful it would be to have a little girl.. those mothers are so very blessed but then those precious gifts are taken away.. It's heart wrenching..
ReplyDeleteThank you Crystal, thank you <3

Nice poem I must say and it feels great that you have written on this topic..as you know many females themselves propagate heinous crimes against women..
ReplyDeleteKeep writing..
Thank you Sakshi! =D
DeleteYes, that's the shocking and sad part, really.
I will, thank you! :] x
This post touched me and reminded many things all again. Killing the girl child is circle. Even if someone wants/needs/takes dowry, it means they are killing the girl child indirectly. They may not hurt the grown up girl or her parents but they are the ones who pose opinions that it is tough to bring up a girl child.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Only if everyone began to understand that!
DeleteThank you for commenting
x
Wow that's beautiful! It's sad that women have to go through this.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ashley! x
DeleteAnd it truly is sad!
I hope that one day, this place is safe for females to live in.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that! :]

I love how you expressed such a terrible topic in such beautiful words.
ReplyDeleteThis truly is a really bad thing, and I'm disappointed that such ruthless people like that even exist in the world. Women deserve more respect!
Thank you! :]
DeleteAnd I agree. Women certainly do deserve a hell lot more than we get!

ReplyDeletewow
Thank you! =D
DeleteThis is so flawless and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteSo true at the end we all fuss and complain how bad the situation but do we really do anything about it.
We live in cities so once in a while we can fool ourselves with the situation isn't that bad. But this issue is so worse in our country.
Step one: Don't let a girl child live. Step two: Even if you let her throw her in a sewer or maybe an orphanage. Step 3 : Even if you don't throw her, raise her but like a maid, make her do all the work and donot educate her. Step 4: Even if you do educate her marry her off early, donot let her work and burden her with the need to produce babies.
This is a circle. Maybe what we need to change here is our perception.
I myself never liked being a girl until recently.
This change won't come unless we accept the fact that girls are no different from guys and before being segregated into boys and girls we all are human beings.
P.S: Does suchay long comment make up for being absent from your blog for so long? :P
Yes, exactly!
DeleteThe steps are how a lot of people live life.. Sadly :[
Hahahaha, oh yes, it totally does! =] xx
You presented the whole problem in a beautiful way.
ReplyDeleteIndia does need to change. And to do that, our generation needs to lead this country like there is no tomorrow.
I really hope women related (or anything, for that matter) social evils, if not vanish, then at least get reduced to the minimum level.
Thank you so much! I tried :]
DeleteExactly, I hope so too!
